Love is All Around – the Home at Least!

Love is All Around – the home at least!

Make your Valentine’s Day the most romantic yet with these interior styling tips.

As one of the most romantic, and arguably hyped-up days of the year approaches – yes, we’re aware we are totally on that band wagon, we thought we’d share our top tips on creating a loved-up space that will make you feel all warm inside. We feel Valentines should be just as much about spoiling yourself so these ideas can be used whatever your relationship status may be. After all, you can’t love anyone if you don’t love yourself.

So, without further due, here are our favourite ways to spread a little romance across the home – and it doesn’t have to be just for February.

CREATE YOUR OWN VALENTINE’S DAY BRANDING.

It doesn’t have to be red, red and more red.

Colour palette by Furnbury Interior Design

Why not have a play with other mood provoking tones. We know red = passion, but think of your Valentine (yes your Valentine can absolutely be yourself), are there any colours that they/you have a connection to?

A favourite place, food, film, brand a happy memory, a previously adored colour or a colour that reminds you of them. Think back to the colours that represent the building blocks to them as a person.

- We’re personally thinking back to wedding colour palettes here for example!

Think of red in its full spectrum

Experiment with pink tones (red’s softer, more compassionate side) or delve into warmer tones such as orange (energetic, attention grabbing, happy), burgundy (red’s serious, sophisticated side) and cognac (warm, subtle, complex).

Once you have your primary palette, throw in some contrasting, but complimentary colours – you can see above that we’ve gone for pinks and deep blue! Yes, blue can be romantic too!

STYLE IT OUT

Once you’ve decided on your Valentine’s colour scheme it’s time for styling; choose items that contain or emphasise your colours.

Roses are red

We’re not taking away the beauty and classical romance a bunch of red roses has, but if 2023 isn’t the time to be a little unconventional then we don’t know when is?

Without breaking the Valentines mould completely, we love to scatter blush and white rose petals to create a feeling of softness and have also found a new true love in dried flowers. Not only are they beautiful, but they are also a longer-lasting, more eco-friendly option too. Just look the Ring a Ring o’Roses dried floral wreath by The Little Vintage below, isn’t it breathtakingly stunning?

Along the ever-so-slightly out-of-the-box thinking, mixing up your flower game can bring stunning and even more romantic results. Other perfect Valentine’s Day flowers include Calla Lilies (aptly the Greek word for beauty), Freesia (with a sweet, citrusy scent and symbolising trust), Tulips (a classic spring flower representing undying love) and Peonies (think love, honour, happiness).

Adding in foliage adds detail and depth and the greenery provides a beautiful contrast to both bolder and more neutral hues found in florals. We also love the idea of bringing a romantic Spring walk into the home. As we always say, every surface inside has potential to host something beautiful from outside.

Let’s not forget a firm favourite of Furnbury Interior Design, reeds. Reeds such as pampas grass help to create a calm, neutral and peaceful space. We absolutely love this Fluffy Dried Bunny Tail Grass from Rhoom, pretty and playful just like the animal they are named after (whilst remaining on the classy side of romantic).

All about the ambience

Creating a romantic vibe across the home is requires tapping into all our senses. Not just how it looks, but how it feels, smells, tastes, and sounds.

When we think of love and romance, we think of warmth and comfort so taking a Hygge approach to your styling is one sure way to cosy up your Valentine’s Day (and any other day!). You’ll need lots of soft furnishings, fluffy cushions, chunky knit blankets, decorative pieces made from natural elements and use candles as your main source of light. You want the lighting low and minimal - and the champagne dry and plentiful!

Our sense of smell has a very strong relationship with our emotions and memories. What smells resonate with you or Valentine? Is there a scent that triggers feelings of love, comfort, passion, or a romantic memory?

Essential oils are one way to fill your home with glorious scent. Firstly, you need an electric diffuser and luckily there is a huge market for aesthetically pleasing devices that make a desirable and statement home accessory. We particularly love the ranges available at The White Company, Layered Lounge and Made by Zen. Secondly, you need to fill it with some oils, and we’ve found blends for those on a self-love vibe, those who are on a date night and those who are looking for a little aphrodisiac.

The fragrance you/they wear will also have an impact on the level of romance you feel, is there a fragrance you love and makes you feel good, do you remember the fragrance you or they wore when you first met or when you shared a happy memory? Choosing a scent that has significance and a sentimental connection will certainly make you feel all loved up.

And finally, if you’re having a romantic meal at home, what’s on the menu? The smell of cooking a delicious meal is another way to help set the scene, as they say, the way to the heart is through the stomach. How is it being served and eaten too? If Valentine’s gives you a perfect excuse for some more crockery, head over to Layered Lounge, Swarovski, Soho Home and Nkuku.

We hope that these tips help to make your home look fabulous and you feel good this Valentine’s, however you decide to spend your day.

Love
