Home office solutions

Here at Furnbury we are working with our customers to help find ways of getting the most out of their home whilst in lockdown. Across the nation we are all having to learn to work together as a family and many of us are struggling to do this within homes that weren’t designed for this multifunctional purpose. In this two part Blog we are helping you to identify areas within your home and garden that are underused and forgotten or, with a bit of imagination, could be repurposed into a beautiful remote workspace.

In part one we look at how to address these areas and identify other ways of zoning our homes to make them flow, even when one room has to perform a number of functions.

Hidden Office Spaces

Not many of us have the luxury of an office in our house and, with the boom in working and studying from home, this is becoming a key component to living comfortably. The problem with an office space is that it has to be functional and this has previously meant that they take up a lot of room. However, there are now many clever pieces of furniture available and design tips that can help you to find that extra space within your home.

We love this hanging desk that is the perfect balance of form and function.

Well designed and functional desk. A cost-effective way to create a workspace in your home

With space for all your IT equipment, laptop and a notepad, it looks great and is easy to tuck away at the end of the day – meaning that you can compartmentalise work and relaxation, which is an important mental health balance when working from home.

Or you could follow one of the hottest new designs to change the way you live and work, by using this amazing sofa that can be turned into a workspace. The concept is by the visionary architect Jacob Low and is one of a number of incredible new designs that are hitting the marketplace. http://jakstudio.co.uk

If you can afford to utilise slightly more space within your home then a built-in office area could work for you. This sleek, and very perfect, built in office maximises every inch of space.

Clever storage helps to maximise this study area

When the door is shut the space is invisible and looks like a simple cupboard incorporated into the wall. When it’s open you can see all the useful storage, neatly hidden behind streamlined doors. There are also two clever drawers in the desk, meaning that there is no excuse for clutter!

Zoning

With anything visual it can often be a case of making simple changes to your current scheme to help change the function of the space. Colour is a great way to zone an area.

A calming blue office area clearly defines the workspace

We love how this striking blue area helps to incorporate an office work-station into the home. The clearly defined space looks welcoming and professional, and would look great on any Zoom call back drop. There is plenty of space for laptops and paperwork. When building any area like this it is also really important to remember lighting and charging points for phones and electronics.

Work Spaces within the Home

Maybe you can’t find that peaceful alcove within your home or you are happy to make your working area more of a feature in your room.

A beautiful wooden desk with striking accessories. Calm and clutter free

If you have a unique and stunning piece of furniture like this then why not make it centre stage. This work set up uses classic accessories to add an elegant, striking feature to the room. The vibe is of tranquillity, calm and organisation, a gorgeous working space for reflection.

Converting a spare bedroom into an home office is also a good solution when working at home. Zoning the backdrop of the desk with painted panelling helps define the work zone and adds character.

Painted wood panelling creates a calm back drop for side by side working.

If you then need to double up the space with a bed it creates a calm area, without being too corporate. The wicker chairs look comfortable and add warm and texture, fabric can sometimes appear flat, next to smooth paint surfaces.

At the moment home isn’t just where the heart is, it is officially where we are doing everything - living, working, schooling, exercising - there are so many new ways to enhance our spaces and make them work for us. Clever pieces of furniture, different textures, new ways to use colour. Now is the time to look at your homes through fresh eyes and create your calming workspace.

Our next blog will talk about how Garden Cabins are being used to add more space to the home and how wellbeing within our workspace is vital to our mental health.

Our styling and interior design service is available via video conference (or face to face as soon as we are allowed!) and we can help you find the best solution to revolutionise your workspace.
