‘Tis the Season to be Stylish: Three Stunning Christmas Décor Trends to Embrace this Festive Season

Give your interiors the wow-factor with these unmissable Christmas looks.

As we come to the end of gorgeous Autumn and say goodbye to the warm tones, crispy falling leaves and pumpkin spiced lattes, we can find joy and excitement in that it’s officially acceptable to talk about and prepare for Christmas. (Shout out to you early planners out there!)

We completely understand that with all the festive fun can also be feelings of anxiety and stress. There is a lot to think about after all! Here at Furnbury Interior Design, Christmas décor is our middle name so let us tick one big thing off your list – how to dress your home for Christmas. Here are our favourite festive looks for Christmas this year, and years to come!

We have categorised these in to overarching concepts, each with a few different sub trends for you to choose. Warm up some mulled wine and put your feet up whilst you decide on (and maybe follow the links to buy!!) your favourite.

Unconventional Christmas – for those who dare to be different!

MORE OF THE NAUGHTY, LESS OF THE NICE!

We love a bit of cheekiness at Furnbury Interior Design, and we are fully encouraging you to embrace your naughty side this festive season – sorry Father Christmas! We’re completely in love with the new range from Rockett St George, think unique, witty, cheeky, naughty and statement – certainly a fresh new take on Christmas décor and we are totally here for it.

You can shop the full range here – go on, we dare you!

BOLDLY GO WHERE NO CHRISTMAS HAS GONE BEFORE.

Think out with the traditional and in with big, bright, and bold! Christmas is a magical time of year which means it lends so well to colour and lots of it. This year, why not paint a Christmas rainbow across your home or embrace your inner 90s raver and go for neon!

Luckily, this year, retailers are very on board with this trend and there are so many pieces to choose from. Head over to John Lewis and check out their fabulous Santa’s Rainbow Workshop range (they also have some neon pieces too). Neon bargains can be found at Habitat or head over to Neon Beach for something a little more customised.

And if you want to go a step further, opt for an alternative Christmas tree. We love this Cactus idea (very kitsch!), but you could use ladders, metal wire or other plants and trees. The options are endless!

Walking in a golden wonderland – one for the luxe lovers!

Going back to a more traditional Christmas aesthetic, this year is the year to make your home as opulent as possible. We particularly adore using gold and pearls! Both classic and timeless choices which scream sophistication and look stunning when combined with forest green.

Selfridges are a gold mine for stunning decorations this year as well as Cox and Cox. We also love this pearl and gold garland available from Balsam Hill.

Natural World – Winter walks in the great indoors

INDOOR FOREST

No matter the time of year, we are always advocates of bringing the outdoors indoors and there is something especially beautiful about doing this at Christmas. We say, don’t just stop at your Christmas tree, create natural garlands using fir branches and hang these across fireplaces, window ledges, curtain poles, stairway banisters and so on (every blank surface has styling potential). We also can’t resist a natural wreath, both indoors and outdoors.

Let all this greenery speak for itself and dress it with delicate and minimalist lighting and ornaments. The White Company have a perfect range to create this look, check it out here.

SO MUCH MORE THAN FIR, PINE AND SPRUCE

Along the theme of bringing the beauty of your winter walk into the comfort of your own home; we wanted to show our appreciation for other leaves and trees that also lend themselves to a yuletide vibe.

Eucalyptus looks sensational mixed with other leaves and forestry, pinecones, and pampas. Be sure to dress it with warm lighting and you could even add a little bit of golden glitz, especially if the golden wonderland look is a bit of you.

Bay and olive trees are another great option, their understated beauty helps to create a subtle and calm look – which can be a perfect way to tone down the chaos of the festive season and provide a winter sanctuary to relax in at home.

Dried flowers are also a favourite of ours, especially Shilda Preserved Flowers. Take a look at their Scandinavian inspired Wanderers bouquet, it has a simple, soft wintery feel which is perfect for Christmas.

HERE COMES SCANDI-CLAUS

If you’re a believer in less is more, then the simplistic and very aesthetically pleasing Scandi trend is a match for you. Scandinavian décor is famous for it’s delicate, natural, and cosy vibe and because of this, it works so incredibly well at Christmas time. Create it in your own home by letting nature be your guide; choose ornaments, candles, and string lights made from natural elements (such as metal, wood and paper) to compliment your greenery and stock up on chunky knit blankets and neutral cushions. Keep the detailing minimalist, but if you have an urge to buy a few of those cute little Nordic gnomes then we say “why not it’s Christmas?”.

Go Hygee for the holidays with the help of beautiful pieces from Layered Lounge, Nkuku and Ginger Ray.

PICTURE PERFECT WITH PAMPAS

We can never resist a bit of pampas, it’s a staple for all season styling, but our absolute favourite season to use it in is Winter. Its natural beauty and neutral hue works so perfectly with a range of festive colour palettes. Combine it with white for a flawless, soft and snow-like look or with deeper tones such as forest green, ruby red and navy blue for a more dramatic feel.

Go on over to Rocket St George and Ginger Ray for your Christmas pampas fix.

And, if you’re bit of a pampas grass enthusiast and DIY fan why not create your own pampas grass Christmas tree, we think it would be worth every ounce of effort. Check out this tutorial from Style Me.

LET IT SNOW

The final look within our natural world theme (and in this entire Christmas décor blog) is fallen snow. Turn your home into a Winter wonderland with frosted decorations and scattered artificial snow. From frosted artificial trees and branches to snow-filled baubles, there are so many snow-effect pieces to choose from this year, meaning that this look is so easy to achieve. Thanks to eco-friendly options it can be much kinder on the planet too; we love this biodegradable faux snow from Floristry Warehouse.

Whichever trend you decide to embrace (we’d love to know which one!), we hope that’s given you plenty of inspiration to make your home truly stunning this Christmas.
